Compassion is at the heart of all of the world’s major religious traditions. We know that we need to have compassion for others, to understand more about where they are coming from, to grant them grace, and to try to work together to build a better world. Sometimes, though, it’s downright difficult to muster any sense of compassion or connection for those who actively work against our best interests. As Susan Werner put it in a favorite song, “How do we love those who never will love us?” This service doesn’t promise any answers, but creates a space for all of us to reflect on this most challenging of spiritual practices.
